Very excited about the sophomore release "Lonerism" from these Aussie psych rockers. The first single "Elephant" is a monster of a song with a great video and few stellar remixes (including one by Todd Rundgren???) Enjoy!

REMIX OF THE MOMENT: SAY MY NAME

Here's a nice vocal-warped nu-disco interpretation of the R&B classic from Canada's Cyril Hahn. Great late summer night vibes here. Enjoy and share. Check Hahn's soundcloud for some equally enjoyable R&B reworks.

SLOW JAM: CONSTANT CONVERSATIONS

While listening to the action-packed new Passion Pit record I got four tracks in when this R&B space jam actually got my attention... Enough to post something about it. The vocal work on this record is pretty outstanding. It's hard to believe with such joyous bubblegum melodies could come from a dude who is mentally unstable. Or maybe it makes more sense. Whatever. Good song, bro.

HEAVY ROTATION: THE VERY BEST

The following track is not from the incredible new album pictured above (although I highly recommend giving that fantastic record a listen). This is a slightly older (1 year) and equally enjoyable remix that they (The Very Best) did for the XX and Florence's tasteful cover of the club classic "You Got the Love". Enjoy.

REMIX: GETTIN JIGGY WITH VICEROY

Viceroy continues to pump out sun-drenched pool vibes with his "Jet Life" series and this time really slapping a thick slice of cheese on the dancefloor with this Big Willy classic. Marco... Polo!

HEAVY ROTATION: MISTER OVERTIME

I've been playing this tune out a lot. I'm particularly fond of Gigamesh's tasty disco edit. Great summer jam. Enjoy and share.

SUPERSTITION: MONOLITH REMIX

Stevie's soulful classic gets slathered with a tastefully glitchy glaze by Monolith. Listen with free download!

T-E-E-D: TAPES & MONEY

This Oxford-educated x-music teacher has been cooking up some pretty addictive grooves. His newest release is part of the recent resurrection of the legendary disco label Casablanca Records (Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, Parliament... etc.)

DEAR HIPSTERS, HOT CHIP IS STILL KILLING IT

It's easy to forget the late 2000's surge in electro with all this dubstep wobbling everyones short-term memory. Hot Chip has continued to make electronic dance music for awkward weirdos like myself and has just dropped their latest installment of tongue-in-cheek bangers. Enjoy the single "Night and Day" below.

SICK COVERS: ELLIE GOULDING - HIGH FOR THIS

I've loved this Weeknd track for more than a minute now but Ellie Goulding's delicately sexy re-rub is pretty magical (headphones recommended). Enjoy, download and share!

LOOKING BACK TO 2011: DANNY BROWN

Another great artist I have overlooked until recently... Danny Brown. Recently signed to Fool's Gold (2011), Danny kills it. Give his album "XXX" a listen if you dig the video below for his single "Monopoly". (NSFW)

(VIDEO) EL GUINCHO: BOMBAY

So I might be a little late on this one but I just recently found the video for El Guincho's "Bombay" (2010) and it has everything that a great music video should have... (Warning... NSFW). I love the homage to Carl Segan for the intro. Please enjoy and download his album "Pop Negro" if you haven't already.

IF YA DON'T KNOW, NOW YOU KNOW

I was jamming on this one pretty hard and had to give it some love. You know this song even if you think you don't. Enjoy.

BAGARRE: DIRTY LOVE

Here we have a limited repressing of an extremely rare and sought after 1982 new wave/italo-disco LP "Circus" by Bagarre. The recording features the left field vocals of Ann O'Rack, some excellent disco grooves and spunky new wave pop vibes. I've included the stand-out "Dirty Love" below for your listening/downloading pleasure. Enjoy responsibly.

DJ SALINGER APRIL MIX 2012

Here's an hour long mix from one of my live sets from the past few weeks. Enjoy. Sorry no track IDs. Mostly new and old disco.

WICKED WITCH

Late 70's DC funk-punk band Wicked Witch sounds like Funkadelic and Throbbing Gristle in a studio with Prince behind the mixing board all popping pills and recording some really dark stuff. "Chaos 1978-86" is a compilation of their work during this time and while only containing six of their tracks, this record definitely gives more than a taste of what this band is about. Below I've posted the opening track "Fancy Dancer". Enjoy.

DJ KICKS: CHROMEO

These funky canadians have been making people dance since "Needy Girl" in 2004 and have continued to consistently produce undeniably catchy electro-funk that your mom can dig because it reminds her of that band that she can't remember the name of.
These two have recently contributed to the long-running "DJ Kicks" series compiling the artists and tracks that have inspired their music while also including one exclusive original track. They decided to submit a cover of the Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why" as their exclusive jammy jam. Check it out: [MP3] CHROMEO - "I CANT TELL YOU WHY"

POOLSIDE COVER HARVEST MOON

"Daytime Disco" duo Poolside put their sun-drenched spin on one of my favorite Neil Young songs. I've been giving this a good number of spins. If you like this check out their soundcloud for some similar vibes. Enjoy and share.

BURAKA SOM SISTEMA - HANGOVER

Buraka som Sistema are an electronic dance group from Portugal who have been credited with creating the "progressive kuduro" genre. They popped onto the electronic dance scene back in 2006 with their debut LP "Black Diamond" which featured M.I.A. They basically took eighties kuduro and fused it with modern techno beats and it came out sounding something like a super-fun/intense afro-caribbean rave. It's weird and I love it. Great late night summertime party vibes here. This track is from their 2011 sophomore effort "Komba".

CERTIFIED "BANGER": MAJOR LAZER - ORIGINAL DON (FLOSSTRADAMUS REMIX)

Major Lazer's original work here should not be overlooked as the real meat of this remix but Flosstradamus is on some other shit with this remix. I've been playing this one out a lot toward the end of the night and people go crazy for it (including people who don't know who Major Lazer or Flosstradamus are). Highly recommended.

DJ SIDENOTE:
This track comes in at 135 bpm which sits perfectly between 130 and 140 and really helps if you're trying to make that jump from electro/house to "dubstep".

ARTIST PROFILE: EVELYN "CHAMPAGNE" KING

Born in the Bronx and raised in Philly, Evelyn King came from a family of entertainers and was discovered as a young girl while at work with her mother who was an office cleaner for Philadelphia International Records. She was coached by the studio and eventually landed a recording contract with RCA records. She reached platinum and gold status from 1977-1982. Her first hit "Shame" from her 1977 debut LP "Smooth Talk" was one of the first records inducted into the dance hall of fame in 2004. Other hits include "I don't know if it's right", "I'm in love" and my personal favorite "Love Come Down" from her 1982 double platinum album "Get Loose". I was recently turned on to "Love Come Down" after hearing it sampled by San Francisco's nu-disco/electro heavy hitter Viceroy in his track "Sunny Daze".
